Tsunami paintings These are mainly a response to the news of the Tsunami. Creating them has helped to express my feelings of anger, impotence, sadness and confusion. I also wanted to show a signs of hope reflecting my faith in God to ‘hold’ his world and people.

I prepared the canvasses with textured materials (lace, wooden spills, crepe paper) and a background wash of colour. I then painted with the three primary colours (acrylics), plus white. I did not plan the images, but am pleased with the spontaneity of what evolved.

In particular, I like the effect of the lace fragments, which seem to indicate the fragility of life among the devastation. Some of the shapes seem to give a suggestion of shoes; fish; rags; birds; souls.
